Scrappy Twists & Turns Quilt Pattern: A Stash-Busting Favorite You’ll Love!

Some quilt patterns just have staying power. Whether it’s the design, the fabric, or the story stitched into them, certain quilts become instant classics. For me, the Scrappy Twists & Turns Quilt is one of those enduring favorites.

I first designed this quilt years ago using Angela Walters’ debut fabric line, and it quickly became a wedding gift that I almost couldn’t part with. Naturally, I knew I’d have to make another version for myself — and when I did, I went scrappy.

I first shared this quilt a few years ago, but I’ve updated the pattern and refreshed this post with new details, so whether you’re new here or a longtime reader, you’ll find everything you need to dive in.

If you’ve got a growing pile of fabric scraps (and who doesn’t?), this quilt is the perfect stash-busting project. And the best part? It looks just as beautiful draped over the couch as it does folded neatly at the end of a bed.

A Scrappy Spin on a Classic

For my second Twists & Turns quilt, I pulled from multiple Bonnie & Camille collections and mixed them with crisp Kona White. The result? A quilt that feels fresh, playful, and completely one-of-a-kind. If you want to sew your own version, you can find Bonnie & Camille and Kona here.

That’s the magic of scrappy quilts: they tell the story of your sewing life. Every leftover piece has history, and together they make something beautiful.

Tip: Try mixing fabrics from one color family (reds, blues, or florals) for a cohesive but still scrappy look.

What’s New in the Pattern?

Since its original release, I’ve updated the Twists & Turns Quilt Pattern to make it easier and more fun to sew:

  • ✔️ Step-by-step layout guide for stress-free assembly
  • ✔️ Coloring page to plan your fabric placement before cutting
  • ✔️ Printable pattern markers to keep your pieces organized

This quilt has even been published in print before (though that version included a small error in the cutting instructions). Don’t worry — the current PDF pattern in my Etsy shop includes all corrections, plus these extra tools to make the process smoother than ever.

Best of all, it’s confident-beginner friendly — challenging enough to keep things interesting, but written with clear, step-by-step diagrams so you won’t get lost along the way.

Inspiration From the Quilt Community

One of my favorite things about this pattern is seeing how you make it your own. My friend Angie stitched her version with Tula Pink’s True Colors and Besties collections—and it’s stunning. The bold prints gave Twists & Turns a completely different personality.
