A Quilt That Dances With Color
When I designed Crossing Waves, I wanted a pattern that looked fluid and full of motion — where each block seemed to ripple across the quilt. The result is a geometric design that comes alive through color and contrast.
My own version (the aqua one below) was pieced using Art Gallery Fabrics’ Essentials by Pat Bravo, which gave it that crisp, modern finish and soft hand I love. Art Gallery’s high thread count cottons make piecing smoother and pressing easier — if you’ve never sewn with them, you’ll notice the difference right away.

A Fresh Take From Paula of Love of Fabrics
My friend Paula of @loveoffabrics created her own version using In Blue by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery Fabrics. Her soft pink palette brings a completely different feel — airy, romantic, and full of movement. It’s one of my favorite things about quilting: one pattern, infinite personalities.!
About the Pattern
The Crossing Waves Quilt Pattern is beginner-friendly yet visually striking. The interlocking X’s and diamond shapes create depth and texture, while the layout keeps the process approachable and satisfying.
Each pattern includes:
- Multiple sizes (baby, throw, twin, and queen)
- Step-by-step diagrams and fabric requirements
- Easy-to-follow cutting and piecing instructions
- Instant download PDF
Want a smoother sewing experience? These are my go-to quilting tools that make a big difference:
- Olfa Rotary Cutter – precise and easy to handle
- Kai Fabric Scissors – clean, accurate cuts every time
- Aurifil 50 wt Thread – perfect tension and low lint for piecing
- Wool Pressing Mat – crisp seams with less effort

Behind the Seams
What I love about Crossing Waves is how adaptable it is. Go for a monochromatic palette for a clean modern look, mix florals and low volumes for something soft and vintage, or use scraps to create a colorful, freeform effect.
The block structure keeps things organized while still feeling creative — it’s one of those quilts that looks far more complicated than it actually is.
